Paul Munter
Chairman of the Department of Accounting at the University of Miami, Professor of Accounting & KPMG Accounting Scholar
Before joining the faculty at UM, Dr. Munter served as Professor of Accounting at Texas Tech University for 11 years. In July 2003, Dr. Munter concluded a one-year term as an academic accounting fellow with the Securities and Exchange Commission's Office of the Chief Accountant. He served as a research resource for the staff and participated in ongoing projects in the Chief Accountant's office, including rulemaking. Dr. Munter has co-authored four books and monographs and over 150 articles and technical papers primarily on financial accounting and auditing matters. He has been active in the standard-setting process in the United States, serving as a member of the AcSEC Task Force. Dr. Munter is a member of the IMA's national teaching faculty and was honored by the Texas Society of CPAs as its first Outstanding Discussion Leader. In addition, he was selected as the Outstanding Educator of the Year by the Florida Institute of CPAs. Dr. Munter also teaches CPE courses for accountants in public accounting and industry.
Dr. Munter earned his undergraduate and master degrees from Fresno State University and his doctorate in accounting from the University of Colorado—Boulder. He is a certified public accountant, licensed in Colorado.
